A Season of Magic (with a Little Help from DDNYC)
This Week: One Beautiful Show Opens, and Another One Closes
Last Chance to View the Gilded Apple…and Other Fantasies
Design Development NYC’s talented millwork fabrication and installation crews had an opportunity to work their magic at Sotheby’s New York, this month. (That's us, behind the scenes, at right.)
Under the direction of curators Paul Kasmin and Michael Shvo and New York landscape designer Kimberly von Koontz, we helped to create a midnight garden setting that brings 36 Surrealist sculptures by the extraordinary Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne to life in an imaginary garden built in S | 2, the private sale gallery and exhibition space of Sotheby’s worldwide headquarters at 1334 York Avenue.
This Friday, November 22, is your last chance to view the exhibition, featuring the artist’s one-of-a-kind works of art in a one-of-a-kind setting, custom-built with a little magic from the millwork team at Design Development NYC.
If your schedule does not permit you time to experience this extraordinary exhibition in person, you can catch a glimpse of Les Lalanne: The Poetry of Sculpture via Sotheby’s online catalogue and free iPad app.
A Holiday Show House, All Wrapped in Pink Ribbons
Design Development NYC was delighted to number among the firms invited to participate in the 6th annual Holiday House NYC, an interior design and entertaining showcase to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The event promotes two passions of founder Iris Danker, a 16-year breast cancer survivor: 1.) a love of interior design and 2.) a dedication to helping women in crisis get the care they need.
This year’s event, inside the storied Academy Mansion at 2 East 63rd Street, features the work of some of the top talent in New York architecture, design, and entertaining—including Mario Buatta, Campion Platt, Christopher Hyland, Cullman and Kravis…oh, and Design Development NYC. Our team made a special cameo appearance inside the mansion’s Art Deco-inspired "Ladies’ Lounge," designed by Franklin Eighth, to paper, paint, plaster, and install new lighting. (What…you seriously thought elves did this stuff? Dear Friends: Nothing magical happens without contractors!)
Holiday House NYC kicks off Wednesday, November 20, at 6 PM, with a festive gala, and remains open to the public daily from November 21 to December 18 (11 AM to 5 PM), with special events on Thursday evenings, until 8 PM. Learn more, here.
